Book summary
For the past few months, Madeline has been dealing with a major upheaval: she now has an older brother rather than an older sister. Her brother, Alexis, is a trans boy. The changes she's noticed in him make her a little sad, because she thinks he's different. He spends less time playing with her, and his many visits to the doctor keep their parents very busy, but during a discussion with him, Madeline realises that Alexis is still the same person. Through shared moments, she learns to express her feelings and accept her brother for who he is.This illustrated story is a simple and colourful way of talking to your child about gender identity. In the more theoretical sections, together you'll discover ways of encouraging openness and respect for diversity - in short, everyone deserves to be loved for who they are!
Methodological seminar on participatory approaches (Servais, 2025)
As part of our methodological seminars, organised by the CRC ReParE Chair, we are offering a space in which doctoral students using participatory methodologies with vulnerable young people can share their thoughts and questions about their approaches. The presentation is followed by a period of group discussion. We are only broadcasting the lecture part, but you will find information below on how to follow this type of activity.

Description of the presentation :
As part of my thesis, I am conducting participatory research with teenagers and young adults, family members and the professionals who work with them. The aim is to gain a better understanding of their current life experiences, their specific needs, and the resources they can draw on and/or need. This study combines qualitative and quantitative approaches and relies on close collaboration with a resonance group to support all stages of the project. Like all participatory research, my research raises various ethical and methodological issues.

Abstract:
In recent years, with a view to decolonisation and reconciliation, academic circles have increasingly turned to statements of territorial recognition and welcoming elders, who share their practices and knowledge. Certain ethical and legal issues remain, particularly with regard to language rights, freedom of conscience and expression, and protection against discrimination for elders and the academic community more broadly. A team of two Wendat professors, in partnership with the RÉSEAU de la communauté autochtone à Montréal, has led a project to develop a guide to territorial recognition and welcoming elders. Funded by CRI-JaDE, the project presents an in-depth analysis of the ethical and legal issues underlying these practices and reviews the statements and protocols adopted by all Quebec universities as well as Canadian universities with the most developed protocols. To ensure consistency with Quebec's Indigenous practices and cultures, consultations were conducted with elders from various nations.  It enabled their vision and knowledge, passed down orally, to be incorporated into the content and format of the guide. This presentation will briefly outline the approach taken and then describe the guide that was produced at the end of the project.
